"I don't know, they just started appearing in the streets."
My ears perked up as Amy, Rory, and I passed the pair talking. "What's that you say?" I asked. "Who's appearing in the streets? I do hope they're dangerous, today's been ever so dull."
The young man raised an eyebrow at me. "You can't be serious."
"I'm never serious. Wouldn't dream of being serious," I said without missing a beat. "Who's appearing in the streets though?"
"Really, man? They're all over the place!" The man held his phone out to me to reveal a video of a news clip.
"Reports are coming from all over the world," explained the reporter. "From metropolises like New York City and Boston, to some much less heard-of places like Hagåtña, the capital of Guam, and Frankenmuth, Michigan. I'm here in Salzburg, Austria, where the aliens are currently known to frequent bars."
I blinked. I handed the phone back to the young man. "Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Come along, Ponds."
Without looking at my companions, I turned and hurried off towards an oddly inconspicuous blue phone box. Snapping my fingers, I stepped through the open door, Amy and Rory close behind.
"What's going on, Doctor?" asked Amy. "Are we going to Salzburg?"
"No," I said. "We need to know where this began. Rory, mate, get on that for me, will you?"
Behind me, I could hear him rolling his eyes. I smiled. I knew he would do it anyway. I, on the other hand, began putting pins into a map of Earth where the sightings were occurring, muttering to myself. "Rome... Vancouver... Bruges... New Orleans... Dubrovnik... Ka'anapali... Barcelona the city... Austin..."
Amy was next to me, putting pins in other cities. "Destin, Florida... Chattanooga... Seattle... Granada... San Francisco... Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs... Marrakesh..."
A few minutes later, Rory responded. "You're never gonna believe this, Doctor."
It was his tone that told me. "London. Of course." I put the final pin on the map. "It wouldn't be an invasion if they didn't pick the off-worlder's prime destination."
"Doctor," said Amy, and her breath halted. "Have you seen what these things look like?"
She turned her phone's screen toward me. My eyes widened. "No...it can't be..."
To be continued...
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of the Doctor, Amy Pond, or Rory Williams. They are the property of the BBC.
Now that that's out of the way, I have to say that I didn't expect to be writing a fan fiction this week...that would continue to next week.
