"Professor, I don't know about this one. I mean, he's not even really a mutant."
Charles Xavier frowned at his former pupil. "There's nothing in this institution's bylaws that states a student or staff member must be a mutant," he said. "And we do take on non-mutant consultants," he added with a nod at Thor.
Scott Summers rubbed his eyes under his special sunglasses. "Yes, but all of the students and staff are mutants, and Thor is basically a god."
"Not all of them," said Charles. "I still haven't been able to delve into the past of that large blue fellow Logan found in The City last month. He may not be a mutant."
Scott sighed. "That's different and you know it, Professor. He was a danger to himself and others. He needs to be reined in a little bit so he doesn't bring the hammer down on all of us. Not your hammer, Thor," he said quickly, glancing at the Asgardian. "This Williams guy is too old to be a student, and doesn't have any powers that we have to help him learn to control anyway."
Thor spoke up for the first time. "I have found that regular humans can be valuable allies. Tony Stark, for instance, is a normal human, is he not?" Scott had nothing to say to this.
"Mr. Williams has a vast wealth of knowledge," said Charles, and he fixed his second-in-command with a piercing gaze. "His experience with different alien cultures and sciences could prove invaluable. Plus he is a licensed nurse. How many of those do we have?"
Scott pursed his lips. "Well, if he's coming into the field with us, we can't just call him Rory, any more than you could call me Scott, or call Storm Ororo. We'd have to give him a name."
Charles smiled. "Oh, he has one, and he's earned the title over the course of centuries."
"What is it?"
"The Last Centurion."
Seriously, how cool would it be for Rory Williams to be an X-Man? If anyone could pull off being a non-mutant on that team and still hold his own, both with the strength of his personality within the team and on the battlefield, he could.
Thanks to Thomas, Chris, and Kelsey for stepping up with their ideas.
For next week, let me know who the most annoying fictional character is. This could be from a film, TV series, book, or even a video game. I've got an idea already for how I want to deal with them, and it should be cathartic to all who read it. Please post your submissions in the comments section below, and don't forget to subscribe!
