Eating Crow

Alas, it seems I spoke too soon last week!

I said that things were going smoothly and I was on a well-marked path to 50,000 words by the end of the month. I settled into my laurels and prepared to watch the words flow from my fingertips onto the screen.

However, it seems as though I, like many others before me, am forced to eat my words. Starting about Tuesday of last week, the day after my previous post, I came to a dead end. Everything started to just plod along, from my motivation, to my character development, all the way to the plot itself.

So it was that at the end of the day on Friday, I was behind on my word count by about 6,667 (due to the ever-unforeseen circumstance of getting frustrated with everything involving one’s novel) and I was forced to play catch-up over the weekend.

Saturday proved to be difficult, however, as I was still frustrated, and wanted to do any number of other things, including weeding the backyard, as opposed to actually sitting down and writing. Eventually, though, I plowed on and got about 2,500 words written. Not enough by a long shot, but a start.

Then, Eureka! Sunday came, and with it the realization of a plot point I’ve been planning since the early stages of this crazy month, and I’m talking November 2nd.

Now there is a traitor in the midst of my heroes, and they are forced to run and hide (as well as they can), and begin taking down their foes.

Hold onto your hats friends, we’re in the third act now, and it’s all downhill from here…at least for this one. I could have a series on my hands!

Or at least a trilogy.

At this time next week, I will be in the home stretch. When December comes, I'd like to get a feel for how people like the stories I've been writing. I'll take a poll as to your favorite stories, which ones you liked or didn't, how I could improve this or that, and put all of your comments to good use for a great 2018. Be prepared for it!
